Hi Rick,

Does your car have a towbar?

I would take out the brake light bulbs out, and see if the fuse still blows.

You could have a faulty bulb.

Car does not have a towbar, tail lamps are good, the vehicle will go 2 or 3 days with out blowing the fuse. it seems to blow the fuse on hot days. were would I find the ground wire for the brake light/shifter circuit. Is it possible there is a loose ground?
My 200 cant be the only one with this problem, just cant find someone who knows what needs to be done!Thankyou

Hi Rick,

I can't find a common problem like yours, but I have seen intermittent bulb faults, and shiftlock solenoids.

Can you check the "fit" of the fuse in the fusebox, and whether the fuse itself gets warm after sitting with your foot on the brake?

Keep your foot on the brake and move the shifter in and out of park.

Can you tell me the fuse value, and do you have a digital voltmeter to measure current?

Gary, it has a 10amp fuse and with peddle depressed volt meter reads 14 volts

Hi Rick,

Your car has two LED taillights, a CHMSL (centre high mount stop lamp), and a shift lock solenoid.

With the 10 amp in the engine bay, I'm out of info as to what is your problem.

I'll opt out, another tech will be along shortly.

No need to respond as it will bounce the question back to me.

All the best Rick.

Hello!

Is your 200 a v6 or 4 cylinder?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hello Anthony 4 cylinder
Expert:  Anthony replied 1 year ago.

Did you ever have the engine wiring harness recall ever done on your 200?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have owned the car 6 months. Did not know of a recall.
Expert:  Anthony replied 1 year ago.

The wiring for the engine and brakes systems under the hood is under a recall. Take your vehicle in to Chrysler and it will be replaced without charge and should handle your problem.
