There are a handful of things you may have going on. It could be a starter, cable or connection issue, it may be the ignition switch or a transmission range sensor related issue.

I'm assuming the engine didn't start and die three times and then lock the starter out, which is a SKIM system issue.

Do you hear any noise from the engine compartment when attempting to crank? A single click from the engine compartment is usually a sign of a failed starter.
