Good morning and welcome to JustAnswer!!!
The issue is caused by a bad regulator.. Here is the case info:
Vehicle IssueFuel gauge won't read full => Change the regulator to part number 05093967AA - Valve Kit, Fuel Control. It was released for Prowler on 03/12/02;What is the problem with the instrument panel/cluster? >> fuel gauge In what area is the electrical problem? >> Cluster What is the problem with the fuel gauge? >> doesn't read full with full tank
System or ComponentInaccurate;Customer Concern (No DTCs);Instrument Panel / Cluster,Fuel Gauge
RecommendationChange the regulator to part number 05093967AA - Valve Kit, Fuel Control. It was released for Prowler on 03/12/02.
Here is the info to test the sending unit:
Vehicle IssueAfter replacing the FUEL SENDER the gauge will never read correctly when moving the sender by hand to verify the repair. 1997-2002 PR.;This problem is only for a fuel gauge that will not read correctly when attempting to verify the sender and gauge accuracy by hand. It appears that the new sender part has not fixed the initail fuel gauge issue. This case is not to be confused with an issue when the gauge reads higher than normal, nor an issue when the gauge will fluctuate erractically. This problem applies to 1997-2002 PR's.
System or ComponentInaccurate,Inadequate Range,Stuck;Customer Concern (No DTCs),Part Caused New Problem;Fuel Gauge;Interior;Yes - Intermittent,Yes - Continuously,No - Condition Never Duplicated
RecommendationThe problem you are experiencing is actually a normal characteristic of the system. The sender will not update like all the other DCX vehicles when the sender is moved by hand (see the information below). You can use a dvom to verify the sender resistance. It is as follows (same as RS & NS): Full = 1050 - 950 ohms 3/4 = 800 ohms 1/2 = 550 ohms 1/4 = 300 ohms Empty = 50-150 ohms The Prowler BCM is very similar to the NS BCM operations and functions (based off NS platform).
