I have a 2002 PT with the 2.4l w/ 4 spd tranny, the car

Customer Question

I have a 2002 PT with the 2.4l w/ 4 spd tranny, the car overheats and sucks up almost 1/2 qt of water a day (no external leaks); oil is not milky, but is developing preignition valve rattle in 1 or 2 cylinders, so I am sure the headgasket is gone. The car is in great shape, so would like to replace the engine. My question: how late a model engine can I install into the chassis without major ECM or ignition changes? Thanks.

Hello and thank you for your question,

The only engines that you can used with out problems is the 2001 through 2002, the 2003 and up had major changes with the crankshaft and the crank shaft position sensor and it can not be retrofitted on the 2002 and down.
