Chrysler Repair Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hello and welcome!
I am a ASE master certified tech. I will be happy to assist you with your problem.
Have you checked the coolant level?
Does the fan not turn on with the A/C on?
It is very common for the fan to burn out.
The fan has 2 speeds high and low speeds. The low speed runs most of the time, and the fan should be replaced. Very common for the low speed fan motor to fail.
Ok then the fan has a internal fault and should be replaced.
Do you have a test light or volt meter.
This will conferm voltage to the fan.
Lift the vehicle and support with jack stands. the connector is mounted on the lower fan shroud.
disconnect the connector, have the engine running with the A/C on.
Test for voltage at the connector, harness side. should have voltage on one of the 3 pins. If it does replace the fan.
Is the A/C compressor clutch turning on? The fan will only run with a proper charge in the system.
Do you have a scan tool that can activate the cooling fans?
And did it work on both high and low speeds? There is 2 power wires going into the fan connector and one ground wire.
If the clutch is not turning on then the fan will not run.
Do you have a overheating problem and the fan will still not run?
so do you have a scan tool that can turn on the fan?
At the bottom of the fan there is the large 3 wire connector for the fan power. There is 2 power feeds and one ground wire. At the fan harness side, ground the neg wire black wire. and apply power to the other 2 wires one at a time. If the fan does not kick on at one of these wires the fan will need to be changed out.
This is a very common problem for the fan to fail only on the one circuit. If the fan has not been changed before then it is likely at fault.
