Went out side and matched up the crankshaft .... then I

went out side and matched up the crankshaft mark.... then I tried to turn the crank shaft to match but it slapped forward busting my knuckle.... how do I make it not jump forward? the mark on the cam is 11 o'clock and the valve cover slot is about 2 o'clock...
when I was turning it very slowly it would jump forward to about 4 o'clock

I assume you meant that the cam jumped as you were turning it?
