cjmopar :

Hello and welcome to just answer. This may or may not be a security issue. If you do not put the car in gear, will it stay running?

Customer :

No it will only start, and stay running about 5 seconds

Customer :

but all the alarms &stuff go off

cjmopar :

Oh ok, then it is a security issue. Do you have the remote key fob?

Customer :

No it was lost

Customer :

you mean the remote?

cjmopar :

Yes

Customer :

no the remote has been misplaced, lost

Customer :

just have plain key

cjmopar :

Ok. There are 2 ways to dis arm the system. 1 with the remote, and 2, unlocking the doors manually with the key. Since you do not have the remote, the only way is with the key. Since that does not seem to work, then what has probably happened is that the arm/disarm switch which is mounted to the door lock cylinder fell off or has failed. You can try to get a new remote, or pulll the door panel(s) and inspect/replace the little arm/disarm switch on the lock cylinder.

Customer :

So where does one buy a new remote? At any chrysler gararge?

cjmopar :

Yes, but they will probably have to order it though

Customer :

how expensive?and, why doesdisconecting the battery not reset it so we could at least get it home.

Customer :

hello?

cjmopar :

Disconnecting the battery will never work. If it was designed that way, then a thief could simply do that and drive away with your vehicle. A replacement remote will run you around $75.00

Customer :

so will have to tow the car then?

cjmopar :

Yes unless you want to pull off the door panel and see if the switch fell off of the back of the door lock cylinder.
