I have an 08 Corvette I changed out the BCM for a used unit.

I have an 08 Corvette I changed out the BCM for a used unit. It works except I cannot program it to VIN with my GM TECH2 it tells me on the setup CONTROLLER LOCKED. I can go into configuration. And now since I cannot load my cars info. I get the SDM B1001 DTC options configuration and it throws the airbag light. I clear and it just comes back. Because the restraint ID’s do not match. Is there anyway around the locked controller?

Mechanic's Assistant: Is anything interfering with the seatbelt latch?

No other codes are present. It did have the B0065 pretensioner and B0066 but I changed to the old ones and they went away.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Corvette yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes I am fixing myself. I have tried everything in the repair manual except but a brand new BCM. The used BCM is the issue.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

No the only thing is the restraint ID issue from SDM to BCM not matching up. Without programming the BCM to the vehicle it will throw that code.

I have never been able to use a used bcm on a gm. Once the unit is locked it is impossible to unlock it. I have used the tech 2 to program the vin in a new bcm, but could never get a used one to accept all of the car options. So I think you will have to go with a new unit.

That’s kind of what I was thinking to. I read a lot about other GM’s. Even older ones and they say locked out same deal. You get most of what you need. Would be fine for a retro build or something. But as for a normal vehicle that requires things like Airbags and such they aren’t a great option. This is my first go at this type of repair. As the old saying goes you live and learn. This one about $100 haha! I will just get a new one and save the trouble. I appreciate the help.
