I have a 2010 Chevy HD2500. The gauges do not work if it is cold, below 32 degrees, or when it is wet out.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '10 Chevy?

Silverado

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Silverado yourself? What have you tried so far?

I am trying myself. Not sure where to start. I read it may be a bad ground. I am wondering if it is a bad wire.

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded?

I had to replace the battery in December. Thought that might fix the problem but no. Terminals looked ok.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I would like some ideas what to look for.

I am here Sundays through Thursdays from around 5 am to 2 pm Mountain time.If you respond and I do not respond back right away I will do so as soon as I can.

Unfortunately one of the most common causes of this issue here is a faulty instrument cluster itself.The circuit board and in some cases, the stepper motors that operate the gauges would act up with different ambient or vehicle temperatures and moisture as well.This was a common issue as we were replacing the instrument clusters for this issue.

To find out for sure if yours needs to be replaced you would need to remove it and test the wiring at the back of it when it is acting up to see if you have the proper power and ground signals.If you have the proper power and ground signals then the instrument cluster needs to be replaced.I can tell you what wires or terminals to test if you like just let me know.

Pin 1 red wire with white stripe power at all times

Pin 5 pink wire power with key on or engine running

Pin 16 black wire ground at all times

Pin 13 black wire with white stripe ground at all times.
