2005 Equinox, no lights until I place it in gear. No high beam selection.

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the bulbs and fuses?

All good. Will not turn on until i place it in gear.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Equinox yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes i am. looking for starting point. could it be the BCM or light control unit?

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

That is it.

You never have high beams, even if you pull the flash to pass lever?

I can flash them. They will not stay on. My main concern is Why do I get lights when I go from Park to drive, but Not in park? Could it be the BCM getting ready to die? I can hear it click. Do I have to be concerned that I will lose lights even in drive mode?

It could be a BCM failure. The only way to pin that down would be with a scan tool that will communicate with the BCM. Is that something you have?

No. What else could it be and why do I get lights when I go out of Park to any other setting to include neutral??
i go back into Park, No headlights.

It sounds like the BCM is operating the daytime running lights, which go out when you shift to park. So in that regard, they're working. But it sounds like your headlight switch is no good, if you can flash to pass but they won't stay on hi beams, the switch itself controls this. I'd be looking to put a new headlight switch (multifunction switch) in this to rectify this problem.

Please take a moment to rate my answers using the stars at the top of the page, that's how I get compensated. Let me know if you need anything else, I am happy to follow up.

OK, but I have No lights at all in park. I tried cycling through day light and regular. No lights. Still faulty headlight switch? I recently replace the radio console cover. Could I have inadvertently lessened one of the BCM plugs? Thanks for your assistance.

Actually looking at the schematic more closely, the BCM doesn't directly control these lights. It controls DRL and some other functions, it has the ability to turn the lights on, but the manual headlight function is purely switch operated. I'm convinced you need a new switch.
