2017Corvette Stingray 3LT Z51 with 2800 miles. Under rapid acceleration makes a slight backfire (cough) with each gear shift (automatic transmission). Local Chevrolet dealer doesn't have a clue!!!!!!!!!

Typically two things cause an exhaust backfire:

Incomplete combustion- poor spark plug performance, or excessive fuel.

or

Very low exhaust back-pressure- normally only seen when you replace the factory exhaust system.

Is it a loud pop or a faint pop?

According to a tech tip from GM the shift pop was programmed in by GM to simulate the sound that race cars make when they shift. To be more precise, they left the sound there rather than tune it out which is what they usually do. It too is caused by unburned fuel hitting the hot exhaust and is caused by the momentary loss of spark used to help prevent damage to the transmission. It's technically called torque management.

Very few dealers are experts on these new vettes. Also, the veracity of this GM tech tip is only as strong as the tech who entered it into the database. They are often unverified.

More than likely it's simply something they couldn't program out without causing a shift lag. The exhaust system is so un-restrictive that it would be difficult to avoid the pop if you are running more than 1/2 throttle.
