Expert's Assistant chatimg
Customer: Hi Mr Master. I had a hard start, miss fires, hesitating so I hooked up my code reader.
JA: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?
Customer: After shown the crank or cam sensor causing problems I changed the crank sensor first.
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 97 Chevy Silverado. 350 engine. 5.7l*****automatic.Battery fully charged
JA: Are you fixing your Silverado yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: As I took out the old crank sensor I did see a physical damage on that from the internal turning part. I thought I put the new one back it will be OK. Yes I started up and do myself. After I started up Rpm was in wide range playing up to around 200 200
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: 2000 and stalled.Since then Won't start not a positive signal from Pcm to fuel pump relay. Why Pcm blocked the voltage towards to fuel pump relay?I didn't find any fuel pump fuse. Can you help with some hints?

As I mentioned I did see physical damage on crank sensor from the turning internal part. After I installed the new one and not worked out well as the engine stalled I pulled back out. The turning internal part was already scratching the magnetic face inside. It may damaged the new one or shorted out towards to Pcm to blocking signal to fuel pump relay? Is that possible? My code reader won't sync with the system anymore. Even I disconnected the positive terminal for half an hour.
Hi my name is ***** ***** will be happy to assist you with your vehicle. Im reviewing your question and will be with you shortly
The crank position sensor reluctor may be loose on the crankshaft behind the timing cover
Customer
Todd! Thank you for you answer on that part. If the sensor reluctor loose It is the process taking out the harmonic balancer and the timing cover to check and secure the sensor reluctor? It is possible to secure it back or that part has to be replaced?
As the code showing the cam sensor is faulty, but I changed the whole distributor shaft, house rotor and cap.
Is the cam sensor is in the distributor unit right?
Thank you again
Mike
the cam sensor is in the distributor. You may be able to stick your finger or a screwdriver in the crank sensor hole to see if it moves. If you can check that and get back with me i have another thing to try from an old gm service bulletin

If you find that the reluctor doesn't move go to a local chevy or gm dealer parts department and have them order you #12565102. These are shims for the crank sensor that will move it further out away from the reluctor. I think it comes in a 2 pack. Put 1 shim on the crank sensor then re-evaluate. You may need 2. This was a bulletin for the 4.3 engine but according to my parts department the crank sensor for the 4.3 and 5.7 are the same part number so these shims should work. You should probably get a new OEM sensor as well

Customer
Todd!
I appreciate your knowledge to share it with me.
I bought AC Delco sensors, but as I changed the whole distributor, I shouldn't change the cam sensor.
About those shim, I have thin washers on that size, but I have to find out the reluctor is tight.
I checked my spark advance on the the code reader which was 18-28 degrees.
Is that right?
Engine has around 360000 miles
(Already started but crank sensor and reluctor has to be correct)
When it runs it is like new!
Thank you again
Mike

At this point you don't have to do anything with the cam sensor. These shims are .5mm thick. and yes the crank sensor problem has to be corrected first. Also with this many miles you could have a loose/sloppy timing chain causing the cam sensor code. I'm not sure if i can help you anymore from here

Customer
Thank you Todd!

I will check those parts and fix it if needs it.
