Customer Question
Good morning, have 2008...

Good morning, have 2008 Chevy Tahoe. Had a dragging, whirling noise from rear of vehicle. Mechanic said caliper was sticking, did complete rear brake job. Turns out there were 2 different noises. Now needed rear differential gears replaced, along with axel seals and rear u joint for good measure. Next day, check engine light on, code reads MAF sensor bad and transmission was erratically slipping. New sensor should correct transmission computer read, and all should be good. Not. Transmission needed rebuild. Had that done, now have oil leak under car and the same low level howl coming from under car as I drive it. Around 30 pr 40 mph, if you take it off gear, noise stops, put back in gear, noise returns instantly. Transmission guy now tells me, noise is the front diff. I have had enough, somebody is not being truthful here. I'm asking, what makes the current noise. Sorry for the long text.

Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?

Does not blink, but comes and goes, car seems to run fine. Steve the mechanic says codes show MAF is running to " rich"?

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Tahoe yourself? What have you tried so far?

I take it to a shop. Has 176k on odometer. The problem now besides the trans shop telling me 1 thing and the mechanic telling me another is, the noise coming from un dear car, not the front, and discs spears when put in neutral

Hello my name is***** to hear about all of this running around you are getting. It sounds like you are dealing with shops that do not know what they are doing. To me it sounds like either the rear differential was not rebuilt right or there is still a problem in the transmission. It does not sound like a front differential issue. I am also assuming that they rebuilt the transfer case when doing the transmission which they should have. Most of the time this noise that you are explaining comes from a front differential pinion bearing that was not torqued right or from a fracture in the transmission sun shell or thrust bearing. Both of these are easily overlooked by inexperienced repair technicians. You may need to go to a completely different shop and start fresh with their diagnosis. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need more help.
