Customer Question
I have a 1957...

I have a 1957 chev pu with a 454 engine and it is overheating. I have changed the radiator to an aluminum and it still is overheating. What is the problem?

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the coolant? Have you checked for a leak in the cooling system?

No leakes anywhere

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '57 Chevy?

Stepside

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

I have used mechanics and they are at a loss. We have put a higher speed water pump in, used a high-end coolant, the biggest problem is when it is idling on a warm day.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Thats it

ok

you have covered all the external stuff.

the next step is the engine.

I would do a leak down test on the engine. remove the plugs and use a leak down tester in each cylinder to see if there is a coolant leak in each cylinder
