Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

The PCV valve is part of the level valve cover.

If the PCV valve has been ruled out and there are no external leaks then it's burning the oil either due to valve seal leakage or piston ring/cylinder wall wear or damage. What should be done is a leakdown test on each cylinder to check for excessive leakage past the rings. If leakdown isn't excessive then the valve seals should be replaced.

I hope that helps! My goal is your satisfaction today. If you feel I've been professional and helpful, your 5-star rating at this time is most appreciated. However, if you still need my help you can reply back here and I'll respond as soon as possible! Thank you!

this engine has been rebuilt 13.000 miles ago. i doubt that could be valve seals since are new or the piston rings. is other area where i can check in this vehicle?
Chevy Mechanic: sprinkles08, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

If it is burning oil it's going past the valve seals or piston rings. I would recommend returning to the shop that did the work if it was just rebuilt 13,000 miles ago.

what could lead to this damage too soon?
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
might be a defective valve-pcv covers?
Chevy Mechanic: sprinkles08, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

Improper installation of parts, poor part quality, unrepaired damage such as cylinder wall damage. If the block wasn't sent to a machine shop then one or more bores may have been damaged, tapered or out of round, surface finish may not have been correct, rings may not have been installed correctly, rings may have been broken upon installation.

I wouldn't be concerned with the PCV valve being bad out of the box.

where else can i check for oil leaks? i went under the van to see around only.
Chevy Mechanic: sprinkles08, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

Under the vehicle is where you would check for oil leaks. If there was a leak this substantial it would be unmistakable under the vehicle and it would be leaving puddles.

if i remove the throttle body and i see oil on it, is the pcv?
Chevy Mechanic: sprinkles08, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

You're going to have some amount of oil in the intake tract under normal operation.

You have replaced the PCV valve and the PCV system can be ruled out. You have an internal engine problem.

what is the pcv system?
Chevy Mechanic: sprinkles08, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

Positive crankcase ventilation.

is the pcv system a duct? i replaced only the covers.
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
should be smoke from the exhaust with engine operating at normal temp?
Chevy Mechanic: sprinkles08, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

There should be no smoke from the exhaust.

The PCV system draws crankcase vapors into the intake to be burned. If the left valve cover was replaced you can rule out a PCV problem.
