Customer Question
Hi Dan, I hope you...
Hi Dan, I hope you can help me figure this out. I have a 1997 Chevy Tahoe. Whenever I drive I hear this "clicking" sound very much like you would hear from a turning signal flasher even though the turn signal is OFF. When the brakes are applied the "clicking" stops, then restarts when the brakes are released and the car starts moving forward. Any help in this would be appreciated. Thank you.Andy

Does noise seem to be coming from turn signal switch?

Ask Your Own Chevy Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Difficult to tell since you have to get your head under the dash and also hear the noise of the engine running.
Chevy Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 9 months ago

This would either mean the turn signal switch or hazard flasher has failed. When making noise, cut the Purple wire from the flasher to the turn signal switch and see if it stops clicking then. If it stops replace the turn signal switch if not replace the flasher. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

Hi Dan, not sure how to cut the purple wire while I'm driving the car since this clicking noise only happens when the car is being driven forward.
Chevy Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 9 months ago

Cute wire then take for a drive to see if noise stops. I would also inspect wiring to make sure it isn't shorting to power anywhere. Let me know how it goes, thanks.
