2004 cavalier -- trunk will not unlock if I use the button

Customer Question

2004 cavalier -- trunk will not unlock if I use the button from teh front of the car. If I try the key directly in the trunk lock itself it'll open but only with considerable effort...Thinking bad latch assembly or maybe lock cylinder but not sure....
JA: Have you tried silicone spray or WD-40?
Customer: have not.
JA: Are you fixing your Cavalier yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Not much yet. But yeah, I'll probalby do whatever work myself...
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I think that's about it...

Hi, my name is ***** ***** you use the button inside, does it make any sound at all?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I don't believe it did, but I'm not at the car right now so I'll need to verify that later and get back.

usually this is caused by the latch wearing and it makes it hard to turn, when this happens it takes alot of effort to turn the key in the lock, and also the electric actuator is not strong enough to unlock the latch, you can try spraying some lubricant on the latch and working it back and fourth to see if it frees up, if not, then the lacth will need to be replaced,Tim
