2015 silverado w/ 4.3l gas engine. Has a very rough idle. took to a local shop and they said a "sylenoid" problem? Smooths out a lot at 1800 - 2000 RPM. Ideas?
JA: Is the rough idle intermittent or consistent?
Customer: consistent
JA: What is the model of your '15 Chevy?
Customer: silverado Heavy Duty w/ a tow package...80,000mi.
JA: Are you fixing your Silverado yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: took it to a local Pep Boys and they said the engine needs to be replaced. My closest Chevy dealer is 20 miles away.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I plan on taking to the dealer if they can get me in.

No, did not say which solenoid and did not do a compression test...only plugged it into the analyzer.

O.k.,they shouldnt be able to tell you need an engine replacement by just plugging into a scan tool like that or an analyzer.They would need to do a cylinder compression test to be sure.

A rough idle can be caused by injectors that are not atomizing properly or an ignition coil that is failing needing replaced or a worn spark plug.These are most common.This model still should use a cap and rotor and if the cap or rotor has any corrosion this will also cause this fault with the cap and rotor needing replaced.

I would have this re checked with a cylinder compression test to make sure this isnt a mechanical fault as well as the injectors and spark tested to help pinpoint the fault.

The fault codes also need checked to see if any codes are set and then those codes diagnosed to then locate and repair this issue here.
