Getting p0016 code on 2007 suburban, P0016 yes i've cleared

Customer Question

getting p0016 code on 2007 suburban
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact code? And have you tried to reset it?
Customer: P0016 yes i've cleared it it comes back
JA: Are you fixing your Suburban yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: changed camshaft position sensor
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Is it possible that it just needs a relearn or is there a problem with tensioner or chain?

Hello what size engine do you have and how many miles on the vehicle?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
5.3 162,000
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.
Is the engine running smooth or rough?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
very rough
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.
How long does it take for the code to come back after you clear it? Is that the only one that comes back?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
it still ran rough with no change when i unplugged camshaft position sensor so i thought maybe it was that. i changed it and it didn't help. p0016 code came back again
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
p0016 is only code that comes back. just have to let it idle for a few minutes.
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.

If you have already changed the cam sensor and still no change, the problem is incorrect cam timing.

do you have any other questions?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Do I just need to a relearn or is there a problem with the tension or timing chain?
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.

there is no relearn procedure for this code. The actual timing chain is the problem.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Can I change the timing chain without dropping the oil pan?
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.
The oil pan will need to be removed
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Is it possible the tension is just bad and the chain slipped a tooth. Could I just replace the tensioner and adjust chain without removing oil pan? And if not does the engine need to be removed to get oil pan off?
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.

is your vehicle 2wd or 4wd?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
4wd
Expert:  Gunvir Singh replied 4 months ago.

On a 4wd it will need to be removed to get the oil pump out. You can try to raise the motor enough to loosen the oil pan bolts and remove the oil pump.
