I overfilled my 2011 chevy cruz after the auto shop filled

Customer Question

I overfilled my 2011 chevy cruz after the auto shop filled it but did not put it on the invoice. The car stopped while engine was running and oil came out of the exhaust. Now the auto shop is asking thousands of dollars saying that gasket needs replacement based on the smoke coming out of the exhaust. Shall I trust them?

You should trust them, because an engine can only hold so much oil, and remember, oil expands when it gets hot. If the vehicle was overfilled then once it got hot enough for the oil to expand, the excess oil has to go somewhere, so it burst seal and gaskets in order to escape and relieve pressure.

You may have blown more than one gasket/seal.
