I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and the instrument panel needles

Customer Question

I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and the instrument panel needles went haywire and where the odometer reads it said power steering. The engine light came on and remains on. The car drives fine.
JA: When was the fluid last checked? Have you heard any whining noises while turning the wheel?
Customer: power steering is electrical. no I haven't heard any whining noises
JA: What is the make/model of your car?
Customer: 2008 chevy cobalt
JA: Are you fixing your Cobalt yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I haven't tried anything so far, being that its electrical. If it had belts, I could do it myself.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I replaced the battery last month--so its a new battery

Hey how are you

1- I know battery is a year old, but lets check for 12 volts, lets make sure it is taking a charge ?

2- check alternator at battery when car is running do you have 14 volts .

3- Have all the fuses been checked

Let try a Master reset and see if it was a glitch & we can reset it

Master reset Procedure

1- Disconect Battery Cables ( Negative & Positive Cables )you can use any electrical wire as an extension if battery cables don't reach .

2- Hold cables Together for 60 secs ,then let go

3- Wait 15 minutes

4- Make sure all doors are closed

5- Reconnect battery Cables

6- Lock & unlock the vehicles using the key from driver door side (if you have a key fob with no blade key, just lock & unlock using the key fob buttons)

7- Enter the vehicle and attempt to start

Please let me know

Thank You
