Customer Question

The two mounting screws for rear cylinder are striped and will not come loose. Can I remove the back plate to have better access to those bolts on back side of plate
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 1995 Chevy lumina
JA: Are you fixing your Lumina yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I tried penetrating lube, a chisel and hammer
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Just if that back plate can be removed. That way I could grind off old bolts.

Hi, I am Mike, welcome. I'm reviewing your question.

The backing plate should come loose if you remove the 4 nuts/bolts but it will only come out a few inches, in order to remove it completely, you will have to remove the axle.
