Customer Question

I have a 2003 Tahoe with severe squeaking in the what sounds like rear end. I changed the u-joints last week...still squeaks. The week before that check all four has newer brake job including new squeaking there. It has new water pump...squeaking is not coming from the engine. Love to stop the squeaking but I just can't find the source.
JA: When was the last time you changed the brake pads?
Customer: One month ago.
JA: Are you fixing your Tahoe yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am. New water pump (mechanic told me that's where the squeak was coming from...he was wrong), new u-joints last Saturday, new brake pads with new rotors.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Does squeak until it has run for a few blocks. Has new muffler also.

Hi, I'm Ron and I will be helping you today.
Stand by for a moment while I prepare your answer.

Rear axle bearings can do that as well as gears inside the rear differential.

I would pull the diff cover of, release the axles one by one and isolate it that way as you turn the driveshaft.

Thanks, Ron
