I replaced the distributor & now it has less power & runs

Customer Question

I replaced the distributor & now it has less power & runs hotter. The dis. only has a cam sensor in it, I wonder if it is a tooth retarded that the ECM might not be able to compensate. Maybe I should try to advance it one tooth.
JA: Have you checked the coolant? Have you noticed any leaking?
Customer: coolant is good, & that shouldn't effect the power
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 1999 K-3500 / 454
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I do it all, I can't advance the dist. because it hits the intake. I will put a timing light on it before I would try advancing a tooth (for reference), a fiends shop read the data & said that the cam degrees was on
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I don't think so
