Customer Question

1999 Chevy Tahoe 2wd - 5.7L Vortec engine - AT - 220k miles
Girlfriend was driving at approx. 30 mph when the engine simply shut off. All dash indicators came on (like when starting) but the engine would not re-start. Engine turns over but without catching fire. All under hood fuses good...relatively new fuel pump is working and comes on at first key position.
Where do I go from here?

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. I’m Ron and I’ll be helping you
Before we get started though, Please understand that I don't know
your skill level or tools you have to assist us. Also understand that
I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle either, so patience is
appreciated. JA is a great Q/A site, but it does NOT replace a
repair shop.
My goal is to make you happy and get a great rating in return for
my time. Sometimes I have to give you bad news that I know you
didn’t want to hear, so please don’t shoot the messenger.

We need to check the actual fuel Pressure with a gauge and check for spark at the plugs with a spark tester. Let me know the results.

Thanks, Ron

Fuel pressure test w/ gauge isn't possible but spark check is. Will respond when results are known.

All vehicles have a way to attach a pressure gauge, why can't you do it? You can also get a gauge at most parts stores for a deposit and they will tell you how to attach it including the specs for your car.

Thanks, ***** ***** please remember to rate me and keep this link in case you need me again later on.
