Customer Question

My 5.3 vortec has the bad heads. I keep the oil full and coolant full. I do not have the money to replace the engine which is the only fix. I have been losing 2-4 qts of oil a week for the last 2 weeks and there is an obvious oil flow issue on the left side of my engine (as you look at the engine from the front). Besides a cracked block what else could be the problem. It does not overheat or miss or anything else.
JA: Have you ever replaced the gaskets? Maybe the hoses?
Customer: No, the oil leak just started 2 weeks ago and appears to be coming from mid level on the engine.
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: nothing yet. I do not know what to look for.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: .yess is it a cheap temporary fix. I am gouing to trade the cr in 2 weeks.

I have been a professional master mechanic for over 35 years and am happy to help you with this.

The most common thing to leak from that area would be coming from a valve cover gasket. Highly unlikely to be a cracked block.

Do you know where the valve cover is located?
