Customer Question

2/3 of dash lights on main instrument cluster not working. I have cluster out but can't get into it to replace lights (if that is possible).
JA: Have you checked the fuses? The dashboard bulbs?
Customer: Fuses OK. Replaced cluster from junkyard because speedometer not working properly. Some of the lights in the replacement cluster evidently not working. Can't open it to get to lights so I don't know if they are replaceable or not.
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 2003 Cavalier
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I can probably fix it myself. About 55 years ago I was a professional mechanic and I have continued to work on almost everything including overhauls, electrical, fuel systems. Everything except automatic transmissions.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The instrument cluster won't come apart to access bulbs without removing needles from various gauges. I'm a little leary of attempting to pull the needles off.
