Customer Question

JA: Hello. What seems to be the problem?
Customer: I own a chevy 2007 silverado and I put in a new battery and alternator. Now while driving my voltage drops from 14.6 to 12.5 volts all systems checked with the computer but everything is normal. What can cause his porbelm. My trck ran 8 years always charching around 14.2 volts
JA: Have you checked all the fuses? Do you have a wiring diagram?
Customer: Not all of them. I don't have a wiring diagram myself
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have the garage where it's been serviced the last 8 years, we have replaced some earth connections and that helps a bit , better voltage but when the truck is running for more than 1 hour the voltmeter drops back to 12.5 volt and never goes up again
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: That's why I.m asking you what more we can check

You need to check the voltage with a handheld voltmeter at the battery with the engine running. The next time the voltage drops on the dash voltmeter check it with the handheld voltmeter. The chevrolet instrument clusters have a common problem of not reading correctly.
