I have a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 5.3 liter I did a frame swap

Customer Question

I have a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 5.3 liter I did a frame swap and now the fuel pump is not turning on, I changed the relay and 20 amp fuse, checked ground and wiring all looks good. When I put my key on ignition the check engine light is on but when I put truck on ignition relay does no click. Only clicks of ignition is on and I take 20 amp fuse out and in. Any suggestions ? I checked for power at lager plug on pump and nothing small plug has power.

Hello and welcome! My name isCustomerand I can assist you with your question. Are you looking for some possible causes or would you like me to walk you through this diagnoses?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'm next to the truck right now. What ever you think is better to get this thing going
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
If I spray fuel into Intake truck starts. So there is no spark issue etc.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

Its really simple. Remove the starter relay and check for two powers and one ground going into the relay (on the female terminals) while cranking. Let me know

With relay out truck won't crank
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

Sure it will. It will crank, but not start.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
If I remove starter relay it won't crank if I put it back in it cranks

The Delphi starter relay right. ?
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

Sorry.. your right. I meant to say remove the fuel pump relay. Not the starter relay. My mistake.

Is there is a ground going into the fuel pump relay? There should be..

Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

Here is a wiring diagram of this circuit

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where does the ground come out of ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Harness to fuse box or ?
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

It is G104. Number 3 in the pic.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it's grounded
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

So is there is a ground going into the relay?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
A ground going into harness under the box where relay is located ?
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

YES.. is there is a ground going into the relay?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
There is not where should it go on the fuse box ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I cleaned one of the grounds on the frame by driver side door. Now fuel pump turns on but engine does not start unless I dump fuel into intake like before. Another weird thing if I turn hazards on check engine Blinks with hazards
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 year ago.

Good morning and sorry for the delay! YES, that is rather odd. If you look at the wiring diagram I sent, its the black wire that supplies a ground to the fuel pump relay. Just follow the black wire from G104 to the fuel pump relay to see where you are missing the ground. If this is the only problem, once this is fixed, the engine should start and run. You can even ground this wire manually to see if the engine will start and run.
