1997 Chevy S10 pickup 2.2Liter...
1997 Chevy S10 pickup 2.2Liter. We are have any issue with this vehicle. Trouble code P0172 Rich. It also tends to stumble, but does not die, after a couple of minutes of idling. We have recently changed out the, Motor has recently been rebuilt, New wires and plugs, Fuel Pump assembly. Fuel Filter. Injector at #4 and #1. Evap Purge Solenoid. Fuel Pressure Regulator. New Oxygen Sensors.

Have you had all fuel injectors tested to see if any more are found to be at fault at all needing replaced?

Does the exhaust smell like it is running to rich with fuel?

Hello, thank you. I have not tested the other two injectors. I have only replaced cylinder #1 and #4 injectors. I was getting a misfire code and misfire count on my data screen when I replaced injectors #1 and #4. Now I am not getting any misfire counts. How would I go about testing the other two injectors. No, the exhaust does not smell like it is running rich. The truck just tends to stumble on its own after about 3-5 minutes at idle, but does not cut off.

To test the injectors this involves a fuel pressure test gauge and a scan tool to pulse each injector.You would prime the fuel pump then record the pressure reading.Then pulse one injector until the scan tool or injector pulse tool stops then record this pressure and observe the pressure drop.Do this for each injector and compare the drop readings.They should all drop the same pressure.If you find one that drops 1.5 psi more or less then the others that injector needs replaced.

If your model uses the mass air flow sensor if this sensor is acting up it will cause a stumble and rich code to set.I have seen this sensor fail needing replaced.

With what has been checked and replaced already I suspect one or more of the other 2 injectors at fault or if equipped the mass air flow sensor at fault needing removed and cleaned or removed and replaced.

This vehicle does not have the mass air flow sensor. It just was an air temperature sensor on the air intake tube. I will see if I can test the other two injectors. I have had a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and does not notice any difference in fuel pressure when the problem occurs. But, cant rule out that there could be another bad injector.

I would test the other 2 injectors to see if both or any are an issue here.With new oxygen sensors and spark on all cylinders this is what I would check into next.

I just wanted to clarify my issue. We do not have a misfire problem and does not idle rough at all either. We just get a random idle stumble after 3-5 minutes at idle and returns right to its normal idle right away. That's why I feel that I have another issue besides the injectors. Please let me know if there is any other info you can provide thank you.

it does as a pending code after 3-5 minutes of idling.

Ok if an injector is atomozing incorrectly it can cause the stumble and rich code and may not be a full misfire.In this case what you can try is adding a full bottle of chevron injector cleaner to the fuel tank at a quarter tank and run to near empty and repeat if needed.This will sometimes clear up a restricted or incorrectly atomozing injector and since you already had to replace two injectors there's a good chance the other two are atomozing incorrectly needing a strong clean.
