Ted., My Mom has a 95 Chevy Lumina. Interment problems

Customer Question

Hi Ted., My Mom has a 95 Chevy Lumina. Interment problems starting. Been to mechanic.. always started, They changed Start motor. Problem returned... Turns out I discovered it was the transmission switch that senses park or neutral... Could move shifter and would fail or start in park /neutral. Has console shift. What do you know about this system?
Thanks, Steve

sound like the transmission range switch

The transaxle range switch indicates to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) what gear the transaxle is in. This information is used for the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) , Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) , and the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve operation.

NOTE: Vehicle should not be driven with transaxle range switch

The Transaxle Range Switch is located left of engine on transaxle.
