ABS activates everytime I brake even on dry pavement.

Customer Question

ABS activates everytime I brake even on dry pavement. Usually a few seconds before my 2003 silverado comes to a complete stop. Sometimes it prevents my truck from stopping which is scary even at low 5 mph or less speed. What might cause this? Thanks

Hello, my name is***** is a common problem caused by corrosion on wheel speed mounting surface which causes excessive gap. The abs module monitors signal from sensors to determine if vehicle is sliding out of control, the excessive gap makes it lose signal so abs module thinks vehicle is sliding on ice causing abs to activate. The fix is to remove the front wheel speed sensors and use a file and/or sandpaper to clean mounting surfaces. This would be around $200 to have done at a shop, let me know if you have more questions or if there is anything else I can do to help. Thanks.
