Customer Question

I have a 2004 suburban with the NR4 transfer case and stabilitrack. The front drive line is binding like it is 4wd. I was told the t-case needs replacing and also told it is just the shift motor and sensors. It does shift into 4lo with no problems.

Sorry I believe its an NR3 t-case.

I am sorry your having this problem

when the transfer case is in 2WD and it feel like 4WD where you feel the binding in the front of the truck on these transfer cases the issue is one of 2 things

1 ) the fluid is old or wrong in the case causing the clutches to chatter and cause the binding

2 ) there is an internal failure inside the case

the best action to take is to change the transfer case fluid and fill it with AUTOTRAKII fluid should be @ 2 quarts and drive the truck for @ 50 miles or so and that should slowly go away

if it does not go away or when draining the oil fluid there is metal or any debris then the transfer case would need to be replaced

It is not an autotrak t-case but a stabilitrak AWD one like found in the H2.

no

the fluid you need to use is called AUTOTRAKII

its special fluid for this transfer case
