Cant get my distributor to t the (6), either it falls just

cant get my distributor to hit the mark (6) , either it falls just shy of the mark or just a hair ahead of the mark , my crank and damper are aligned and its at tdc of compression stroke. My question to you is this , the book says " within a few degrees" can you illaberate on that " few"

few degree's would be if 1 to 2 degree's or @ 1/8 inch or so

its dropped down flush and it is either before the # ***** or after the # ***** down flush and it seems to be in between the teeth of the distributor / cam meshing where its either before or after it a bit then drop it in the way the rotor is closest to the # ***** in the distributor
