HI there, I am Cam. Can I get your first name please?

This sounds like the typical failure of the wiring on the side of the transmission shifter under the console. This wiring moves with the shifter and after times breaks at the wiring connector into the solenoid assembly. If this is the case, the repair is to get the centre console off then replace the wiring connector on the right or transmission side of the shifter assembly. in the short term you can reach up under and use a small mirror to visualize the shifter wiring.

new part / harness or just put in a small wiring patch?

It would be far better to get a new pigtail connector.
