Chevrolet: We have 4 different years of Express 3500 vans 2010-2015

Customer Question

We have 4 different years of Express 3500 vans 2010-2015 that intermittently will not crank. The newest one has been to the dealer 3 times. Everyone appears to be clueless??

When they don't crank, what do you do to get them going?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Nothing we can do....let them sit, in the worst case have them towed in. Next time they may start. Newest 1 spent 2 weeks in the shop...would not act up.

More often than not, intermittent "no crank" issues on these trucks/vans are caused by faulty starters. It can be very frustrating to try to replicate it at the shop, but when it finally fails, I usually find that the starter itself is no good. Install a new starter, problem goes away. If you have the ability, next time you have one that won't start, you can diagnose it with a test light. See if there is power at the purple wire going to the starter while an assistant tries to crank it. If you have power there in the START position and the starter doesn't engage, the starter is no good.
