I am changing starter on 2005 chevy impala 3.4. I seem to have extra eire, ablack heavy wire, cant remember where it goes

Hello I will help you with your question,
You have the heavy black battery cable and a rust colored fusible link that connects to the large terminal on the solenoid. The small purple wire connects to the small S terminal.

I have 2 wires on the large terminal, and small wire on the S terminal. Still have that big black wire.

You should have the positive battery cable and the rust colored fusible link then the purple wire to the small terminal. You have a fourth wire and it is black? Can you post a picture or maybe trace it back to the battery and see which side it is on?
