Customer: hi i have an 03 chevy 2500hd with the duramax and allison. i recently replaced the water pump but i must have not properly sealed where the pump housing meets the oil cooler. i also used a paper napa gasket and i was just told that i should use the factory steel gasket. my question is if i have to remove the entire oil cooler assembly or if i could just take the 2 nuts off the water pump housing thus freeing up the oil cooler tube and be able to complete the job that way.

either remove the 2 nuts and if you can slide the cooler tube back enough off the studs then put in the new gasket or pull the water pump to change it.which ever you find easier to do.but it will actually be easier to pull the pump again then to remove that cooler pipe to slide it back im sorry to saygraphic

WHATABOUT REMOVING THE OIL COOLER ITSELF? INSTEAD OF THE WATER PUMP

the problem being the cooler pipe is slid into the cooler above the oil filter and the only way to get that out is to slide it forward as you see in this picture and to slid it forward that water pump must come out im sorry to saygraphic

WHAT IF I REMOVED THE HOUSING THAT THE COOLER TUBE GOES INTO AS WELL IS WHAT I MEANT TO ASK. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THERE ARE 4 NUTS THAT HOLD THE HOUSING TO THE BLOCK AND IT WOULD POP OUT WITHOUT HAVING TO BE MOVED FORWARD ????

if that cooler will slide back enough once unbolted off the block then it can be slid out but that is just a tough area to do this in

it takes 2.5 hours to r& r the adaptor but yes it can be done that way
