My 1998 Chevy Blazer makes a rattling noise

My 1998 Chevy Blazer makes a rattling noise

Thanks for using JA

Is the noise under the hood, or under the vehicle, is at idle or while driving too.

is there any lights on the dash?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Under the vehicle. More when just starting out but at idle and while driving. It is loudest when just starting

Thanks for the reply

this sounds like a faulty catalytic converter or even a broken up exhaust shield.

if its a converter the vehicle will eventually lose power and stall. the shield on the other hand may fall out on its own.

a catalytic converter is roughly about a $500 repair.

How long if it is the catalytic converter would it lose power?
it depends on how bad it's broken up inside it may not loose power and continue to rattle, you'll now for sure when it's time to get the car inspected they'll test that.
