1997 Chevy Cavalier: speed manual..cyl..exhaust..manual trans

This answer was rated:

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier (5 speed manual, 2.2 ltr 4 cyl) makes a low-pitched, but loud humming noise in low fourth gear and fifth. Thought it might be exhaust, but that is fine. Could the manual trans. be having issues?
Hi . Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer. does the noise get quieter if you turn the steering wheel left or right?

Thank you again for trusting us with your problem. John aka eauto

Steering has no influence on the noise. It gets louder or quieter when the gas pedal is pushed further or less when it's shifted into fourth gear and again in fifth.
have you checked the wheel bearings..That is the most common cause for this type of noise
