Chevrolet Cavalier My 2005 Chevy Cavalier smells like gasoline

Resolved Question:

My 2005 Chevy Cavalier smells like gasoline when driving. My mileage per gallon is also going down. No leaks are apparent. One shop could not diagnose (left it overnight so he could get a cold start); but did see evidence of gasoline burnoff on engine. I had them put in new o-rings just in case. No improvement.

Could it be just terribly out-of-tune?

Hello. Thanks for using just answer.

the vehicle could be running so rich due to a bad sensor, or leaking injector into the combustion chamber, out of tune faulty catalytic converter. any one of the above could cause the fuel consumption, fuel smell, rich condition. the shop should be diagnosing that and not looking for a raw fuel leak.
