Does the transmission seem to shift properly when it should?

Since the transmission shifts properly, the vehicle speed sensor is working. Make sure there is power at fuse 39 with the key turned on. Use a test light or voltmeter to verify this. Disconnect single wire connector at the coolant temperature sending unit (green wire). Turn the key on, gauge should go all the way to cold, then ground the green wire and the gauge should go all the way to hot. If this does not work in this manner, the problem is in the gauge cluster and the cluster would need to be replaced.
