no just driving along eng cuts off. put in nentral starts up again and keep going

Ok that sounds like the new alternator is bad.I would have a charging system check done next .Happens alot were the new rebuilt alternators are bad.Also have the system scanned to see if there are any codes stored for the check engine light could be 2 issues.This is the next step.Most likely its the alternator.

the last time it happend the tach would not drop when take foot off gas. acted like cruse on but it was off. and it did not accerate up hill but tack stayed up put in neutral and hit gas it went up than back to 2000 rpm than latter went to normal when foot off gas

Ok it can be 2 different issues sounds like the new alternator is failing along possibly with a faulty sensor of fuel issue .The check engines light will tell what system has the problem when you get the code.I would start by getting the codes and checking the charging system to be safe.

I was looking at the question. That is not what I asked today. What I wanted to know was. While driving it just stops running. Put it in neurtal and it starts rigth up again. I thought your answer was strange.

OK i was going from another question.Did you repalce the alternator for this issue or the electrical part of the ignition switch?

electrical part of the ignition switch and 150 miles latter is stopped running again and started right up. About 10 miles or so b-4 it stopped the tach stayed aroung 2000rpm.

Engine did not race but stayed even when I put in neutral and stepped on gas. Stopping at a light in did go back to 500rpm but tach did not act normal for a few miles. Looks ok now.

So the alternator is new correct ?How are the battery terminals are they tight and secure not corroded?

Ok has the coil been checked.This affects the tach and can short out when hot.

Yes I would check that next could be the issue or even that switch is faulty .I would also check the alternator again to be sure its charging properly across the battery .

Hi are you there? Mech. said no codes. Said ran hot chng thermo cleaned thro body and new air filter. Adv of coil and dist cap. Said if that it would run ruff. Sprayed water on coil and dist cap did not cut off eng still ran fine that is how he tested it. I drove a few errends last night about 30 miles. Tach acted funny and low power with ac on at about 27 mile into trip. Power would act normal after 1000 feet or so, but Tach still funny. End of trip no stall. I still think there is a prob. How do I test coil?

How do I test it? There were no codes to read. Do I just get one and put it in?

Best way to test This is with a scanner. You can use a meter and check on the AC scale and looking for 1 to 4 volts at terminal B. If not it's bad . I would start here.
