Customer: I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban 5.3L with 62,000 miles on it. Occasionally upon starting up, it starts up fine, I put it in drive, it doesn't want to go forward, feels like e-brake is still on. Put it in reverse, it backs up, put it back in drive and away we go. The rest of the day it drives just fine. Other days I put it in drive and it is fine.

Firestone has checked out e-brake because they adjusted cable several months ago. Firestone also checked out transmission and seems fine. Firestone put it in all 4x4 modes and seemed fine. Firestone was unable to duplicate problem that occurs only several times per week.

do you park with the e-brake on or off
Customer
Currently always use E-brake. Intend to stop using and see if problem occurs when it is not used.
the way you describe it the e-brake is not always releasing properly i almost 100 percent believe if you don't use the e-brake you won't have this issue
Customer
Once we determine it is e-brake not releasing, how do we fix that?
your going to have to see what section it is when you release it someone will need to inspect the cables and see what has release and what hasn't before you move the truck
Customer
The cable was either replaced or adjusted by Firestone several months ago, so they will adjust once I convince them that that is the problem. I am new to this service. Since I was already intending to try what you suggested. Can I wait and see if you are right about the problem going away when I don't use the brake and then returning when I start using the brake again before selecting "Accept Answer"?
yes you may wait but if you need more assistance e the question times out in 23 hours
Customer
Can you tell me precisely what I should say to Firestone who according to invoice in December 09:

parking brake shoe set
replace parking brake shoe & lining each side
remove & replace disc rotor - rear, both

In early April, I complained about the problem and they checked e-brake and said it is working properly and they are unable to duplicate problem.
tell firestone the e-brake is not releasing after applied for a long period of time like overnight they may have missed something a worn backing plate where the disc bands sit will cause this and are common failure
Customer
I decided to see if I could recreate problem. I noticed that emergency brake pedal now goes all the way to the floor.
sounds like something has come loose or is broken
Customer
It grabs but not fully until the very bottom of travel.
they may have the cable loose
Customer
Tonight, it did it again. It would not go forward in any forward gear. I released the emergency brake. When I went to apply it again, it would not travel more than halfway to the floor. After releasing the brake, the car wtill would not go forward. After going backwards a foot or so, it goes forward fine. When I applied the emergency brake when I got home, it went all the way to the floor again. I am now sure my problem is in the emergency brake. Can you tell if it is the cable or the shoe from what I described.
this definitely in the e-brake i believe its in the e-brake bands not releasing and not the cables like i said it may be the backing plates or the hardware on the bands
