1999 suburban: door locks..intermittent..engine running..unlock…

1999 suburban door locks are...
1999 suburban door locks are intermittent. Tried with engine running with same results.

I can hear all doors attempting to unlock/lock.

1st attempt to actuate unlocks drives door and passenger door most of the time. Rear two doors do not actuate most of the time.

Additional attempts result in weaker actuations. For example if I unlock the drivers door with the remote, then lock the door manually, then attempt to unlock again with the remote, the door will not unlock.

Acts like a capacitor needs to charge prior to making multiple unlock/lock attempts.

when this happens do all power locks quit working or just one/some?

Using the FOB remote some lock/unlock some do not. Which particular door locks/unlocks is random.

I have not tried the locks with the engine running. I will give it a try.

All of the locks work with the same signal so they should all work or not work.

 

What this means is that the controller is working. The problem is in the connections or the wiring or the motors themselves.

 

GM was pretty cheap on the wiring on this model. They put the minimum amount of copper necessary to run the motors. So if anything is weak, something doesn't work.

 

I would start by taking apart the connections in each of the doors and putting dielectric compound on the connection and putting it back together. When you do this, plug and unplug it several times. This will scrap clean the connections and the dielectric compound will keep it from corroding again. Whenever I take apart a connection, I use this and then I never have to worry about that connection again.

 

Dielectric compound can be found at any parts store.

 

After the doors, I would do all the switches, especially the master switch in the driver's door.
