1997 chevy: overdrive..spark plugs..fuel filter..rotor

i have a 1997 chevy...
i have a 1997 chevy pickup z/71 with a 350 engine vortex, the problem i am having is
when the engine gets hot it starts to surge in overdrive , you can give some more gas
it will smooth out for a little while then start again. i have replaced the spark plugs wires
and new plugs, i have replaced the fuel pump and strainer, and fuel filter, and replaced
the control module. replaced the distributor cap and rotor, can you help me with this
problem. thanks jerry

These are some of the common problems we see for this condition.

Incorrect Cam Retard Offset
Misadjusted Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
Incorrect Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Variation Learn
Incorrect Fuel Control Signal
Dirty Fuel Injectors
Improper Fuel Pressure
Malfunctioning Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)
Malfunctioning Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor

 

You will want to check the following things.

Test fuel pressure/volume during problem, try during power braking.

Test fuel trims during the problem.

Clean injectors, test operation.

Disconnect Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, test operation.

Scan cam retard offset. If not 0 +/- 2 degrees adjust distributor until within spec.

Shim Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor as much as 0.040 inch, test operation.

May try crank variation learn.

Test HO2 heater power and ground, replace HO2.

how do you check the h02 sensor,will the check engine light come on. my check engine

does not come on. like i said in my letter its start doing this when its get hot, you have to

drive it about 10 miles.my truck has 3 senors on it, do you think i need to change all three if i can,t check it. i have done all the things you have on the list except this.

You will want to make sure the 12 volt signal and ground signal to the heater part of the sensor is correct. You will want to use a DSO scope to check the sensor. You will want to check the rise and fall times.
