Ron :

Hello,

What is the code,P401?

Customer:

yes, that is the code

Customer:

I am here

Ron :

On your 3.1 its caused by Restricted Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Passages and the fix is to clean all carbon from the EGR passageways. Remove the throttle body, inspect the EGR port in the intake plenum. The carbon build up is at the bottom of the hole where it dumps into the plenum, it is very hard to see this spot.

Customer:

Can I do this or do I have to take it to a repair shop? About how much is this going to cost if I can"t do it myself?

Customer:

how long can I drive the car without getting it fixed?

Ron :

It might be something you want to take in to have done as it dose require some experience. In most case you are looking at 1.5 to 2 hours of labor.

Ron :

There are no parts required, just removeing the throttle body and cleaning the ports.

Customer:

Thanks for your help, I guess it would be best to take it to someone. You have been most helpful
