2005 Chevy: EGR valve..PCM module have to be flashed after replacement

Do you have written procedure to replace EGR valve for 2005 Chevy Equinox? Does PCM module have to be flashed after replacement?

  • Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe.
  • Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.
  • Remove the EGR valve bolts.
  • Remove the EGR valve.
  • Remove the EGR valve gasket.
  • Clean the EGR valve mating surface.

The PCM does not need to be flashed after the procedure, however, to clear the code you will need to remove the "NEG" from the battery for 15min. Make sure you have a working keyfob for your alarm and a radio code (if equipped) as these systems usually rest using this code clearing method as well.

Should you take off the the (neg) terminal of battery at the beginning of the EGR replacement procedure to speed up the replacement time?

To tell the truth, that's exactly what I do. This way, while you are making the repair, the computer is clearing the codes.
