1997 chevy tahoe: water pump..I cant get the clutch fan off the pump

Trying to replace the water pump on my 1997 Chev Tahoe 5.7L. I can't get the clutch fan off the pump.

You will need a special tool, a Fan Clutch Wrench. You can usually rent this tool from a local Auto Parts Store.




  • Remove the fan hub nut from the water pump in a counterclockwise rotation using the J 41240 fan clutch wrench.
  • Fan blade from clutch.

    It comes as a set. One will hold the front bolts (to keep the from spinning while you're trying to get the big nut in the back off) and the other will turn the big nut.
