Cavalier z24: you check the transmission fluid level in a 1997 chev.

how do you check the transmission fluid level in a 1997 chev. cavalier z24 with a 2.4 engine. should the vehicle be running when it is checked or should you leave the car off while checking the level

Hello and welcome. the engine needs to be running while checking fluid level. also needs to be at operating tempature

how do you fill the transmission since it does not have a dipstick? how much fliud does it hold

here is the instructions, there is a threaded in plug on the passenger side of transmission, you remove this plug to check the fluid level while running.




The oil level control plug (65) is located on the torque converter side of the transmission.


Start the engine and allow the engine to idle until the transmission fluid temperature has reached the value specified.


Remove the transmission oil level control plug (65). See drawing above.


Add DEXRON® III automatic transmission fluid in increments of 0.5 L until the fluid drains from the plug hole.
